How I got into the practice of yoga?
I’ve been an athlete since my single digit days. From futbol or soccer as we in the United States call it, to powerlifting over 225lbs as a 150lb high-schooler. I never once imagined that I would be doing the downward dog and saying, namaste. Yoga has grown in popularity and thanks to a gym membership that I had with the now defunct David Barton Gym, I was able to learn and practice yoga.
As someone who believes in a balanced lifestyle, I found Octavia Rogers on my Instagram timeline posting her yoga poses. Since my series is called: Creative Entrepreneurial Woman, I thought she would stand out amongst those I have interviewed for the series.
Below, read my interview with Octavia, who can give you some insight on her Zen qualities.
Who Is Octavia Rogers?
Name of your business ?
Wonder Woman Yoga
How long have you been profitable in running this yoga business?
I have been profitable about 1 year
Who is your target market when you’re marketing your yoga business?
The urban yogi. People who work full time and maybe have families and life obligations but still find time to hit the mat and work on their physical and mental health.
What are some of the inspirations for yoga poses and different themes?
I get a lot of my inspiration from Instagram and just my life, you know? Some days, maybe my hips are tight so I work my splits that day, other days I feel like I can lift the world and maybe I’ll work on my press up or handstands. Other days, I’ll see some amazing yogi on IG post something and I say, “I could do that” and at the very least I try, some days I nail, other days I practice it. heheh.
Before starting yoga classes, did you ever have inspirations to start your own business?
Yes, I have started and failed at at least 3 businesses. I have always known that I wanted to work for myself, I just had to find that one talent that I was most passionate about. In many ways having my own yoga business has used many of the things that I’m great at like organization and money management.
If you weren’t in starting and growing this yoga business, what would you do be doing?
I would be brainstorming my next business. I am always re-creating myself, whether it’s taking a training or learning a new skill. I don’t know what I would be doing for certain but I know I would be learning something new.
Do you market your yoga classes internationally?
No,not yet. My site is due to launch on December 1st. When it does I will be appealing to an international audience as I will be offering worldwide virtual sessions. (at the time of this interview it was 2016)
